Thermacell looks really good for portability.
If that feature isn't necessary (sitting around on the boat in the evening, or asleep), are they better than the household electric heater units (Raid, Mortein etc)?

I think it is the same thing. I even bought one that it is supposed to work with USB. There are others that work with the standard 12v lighter socket. Haven't received it yet.

Not many US Marines around here I guess. After a while, you end up not being bothered by sand fleas. You can even determine the sex of one.

We would put a Thermacel below decks in our Pearson 323 at night and anchor in Panhandle Bayous (notorious for noseeums) without any problems. Thermacels are really, really effective. I know hunters who will hunt in south Georgia swamps with no bug spray, just those things.

I've never used an electric Thermacel. All the ones I've used were based on a butane cartridge.
