Nothing more motivating than a crazy plan

Talking to a friend the other night and we talked eachother into a circuit across Bass Straight.

Cast off is scheduled for March 1 2004.

All thats left to do is buy a boat and learn how to sail it.

I smell an adventure coming.

schedule a visit with a 'shrink' before anything else - Bass straight is a mean piece of water, mate...

A crazy plan After thousands of hours on boats both sailing and pro fishing on bass strait over more than 40 years. I can tell you it is not the place to learn nautical or sailing skills. The strait has a average deth of only 35metres and strong tides so if you get a 20 knot wind against the tide waves will stand up as 15 to 20 feet with no backs on them.Boat, crew and you take a ponding.

Hi OZ..

I was wondering if you think the Kayakers route would be the safest one for us to take?

Wilsons Prom - Kent Islands

Kent Island - Flinders Island

Flinders Island - Tassie.

Both the Kent and Furneaux groups have good anchorages to ride out bad weather.

We're in no hurry to race across and I like the idea of "island hopping" it with three "day cruises" when the weather is favourable.

Endeavour 26, TopHat and Folkboat are the 3 boats that have been suggested to me as the best small boat options within my budget.

Going to have a look at a Endeavour 26 down at Royal Geelong YC next week.
