World Sailing Speed records Council:
https://www.sailspeedrecords.com/the-courses-offshore

a. RTW - Round the World, eastbound and westbound 21600NM. 2 separate records.
To sail around the World, a vessel must start from and return to the same point, must cross all meridians of longitude and must cross the Equator. It may cross some but not all meridians more than once (i.e. two roundings of Antarctica do not count). The shortest orthodromic track of the vessel must be at least 21,600 nautical miles in length calculated based on a 'perfect sphere'. In calculating this distance, it is to be assumed that the vessel will sail around Antarctica in latitude 63 degrees south.
A vessel starting from any point where the direct orthodromic distance is too short shall pass one single island or other fixed point on a required side so as to lengthen his orthodromic track to the minimum distance.
No starting point will be permitted more south than 45 ° south.
1 degree of longitude at 63 degrees south will be taken as 27.24NM

A great many world records are held by Militaries and their equipment. I don't know why.
Hard to explain the existence of the Blue Angels and Thunderbirds for instance.

The Earth race boat was a joke, highly touted as being green and eco friendly some how, but I think they were just Diesels and burned bio-Diesel, and it had some kind of fuel issue that added a lot of time if I remember correctly.
Then since it was a worthless boat I think it was donated to the anti whaling folks, and the Japanese ran over it.

Re: Oh, I coulda done that, if I really WANTED to

The Earth Race boat may have been an eco-joke, but apparently no one has done a faster non-stop official RTW in an engine driven boat. Or if they have, they haven't bothered to tell the record folks... and I can't imagine that!

It's kinda obvious to me: carrying enough fuel to make it non-stop is pretty hard while keeping the vessel light enough to go fast. Sailing yachts cheat by not using fuel!

Rutan made it around the world, non stop in a plane made from fiberglass and blue boat dock foam with just one load of fuel.

Question how can a constant 30 knots avg 8.5 knots per day?

Don't you guys get a joke?

The problem is that many jokes revolve about a statement that is so ludicrous that it is funny... and here on CF, some of the serious posts meet that criterion. So, yeah, sometimes we don't 'get" a joke and respond seriously. Sometimes it is appropriate, sometimes not!

Exactly. Which, I guess, is part of the joke.
