Re: Ooops..nuclear sub hits underwater object

Why should the subs be any different than the Navy’s surface ships? The ships can see, but they seem to be pretty good at hitting things![emoji23]🤣

Re: Ooops..nuclear sub hits underwater object

A few years ago the US navy ran onto a reef near the Philippines and later so did the Filipino navy.

These reefs are clearly visible from satellite imagery.
Using a program like Sat2Chart you can create charts from SasPlanet or Google earth. I'm sure the US navy has better satellite imagery.

Having something and knowing what to do with it are two different things.

Navy ships had AIS, among other aids, and still managed to collide with big ships.

There was at least one chart that showed the reef in a different location than reality. I think the chart was 5-10 miles off. Another chart had the reef in the proper location. The crew was not using all available navigation aides.

At this point, that is the best guess. Or it was a charted seamount which has expanded or risen in height. Just saw a story that some ships that were sunk at Iwo Jima during the invasion to form a breakwater are now on land. The ocean floor under the ships has risen and the ships, well, pieces there of, are now on the island.

Re: Ooops..nuclear sub hits underwater object

Common sense would indicate that this nuclear sub lurking in the South China Sea and provoking the Chinese may have gotten a bloody nose.
A torpedo meant to damage and not create a nuclear waste catastrophe in prime fishing areas would make sense.
The sub had to surface and limp home.
You wont hear any truth but only diversionary narrative from the U.S.

Re: Ooops..nuclear sub hits underwater object

* frontal impact, compromising the sonar dome on the nose;

- rendering the sub blind (if true, how did she proceed without sonar while remaining submerged?);

* no damage to the sail or remainder of the hull;

* near the Paracel Islands on or around 3 October;

* currently in Guam.

what is seen from a satellite looking straight down may not be so visible from the bridge of a ship.

Re: Ooops..nuclear sub hits underwater object

The satellite photos seen in the first half of this video, seems to show that the sub lost it sonar dome. The dome is NOT part of the water tight structure on the sub.

The question is, did the dome come off during the collision or during the transit to Guam?

How will the sub get back to a base with a dry dock? On the surface or bring in a lift ship. Guam USED to have a dry dock but it was taken out of service years ago.

Not to mention what did the sub hit in the first place.

Not about this sub, but if anyone wants to hear what they might have felt to some degree, here is a real story of a sunk submarine.

The US Navy has figured out what a nuclear-powered attack submarine ran into in the South China Sea: report

https://news.yahoo.com/us-navy-figur...194721944.html

The US Navy has completed its investigation into a mysterious submarine incident in the South China Sea.

USS Connecticut grounded on an uncharted seamount.

The investigation has been sent to the fleet commander, who will consider accountability actions.

The Seawolf-class nuclear-powered attack submarine USS Connecticut collided with an unidentified object on October 2, the Navy revealed five days after the incident. Investigators have reportedly determined the submarine ran aground on an undersea mountain, a seamount, the location of which was uncharted.
