Just to clarify: that may be true in most of the world, but in the U.S. our basic rights are considered granted by our "Creator" (who/whatever that is). The law only prevents those rights from being violated. The 9th and 10th Amendments to our Constitution highlight this. And being "god-given", these rights to life, liberty, the pursuit of happiness, etc. extend even to non-citizens.

This may seem like a bit of pedantry, but I submit that it is exactly why the U.S. is so unlike any other country. And it may be of benefit to you if you find yourself in a predicament in U.S. territory.

Cheers!

No you have a piece of paper that makes that claim. But you know what they say about paper and ink

Many other countries have God in their constitution , it’s not helped them much

Rights, ultimately are granted by the society in general , they can be removed just as quick as Hawaii found in ww2. ( and US citizens of Japanese origin also ) their “ inalienable “ rights weren’t it seems quite so inalienable !!

Countries including the US have instigated rights , removed rights , modified rights all the time depending on national emergencies , societal panics , moral panics , and so forth.

I am simply supporting the poster that in my opinion correctly maintained that there is nothing fundamental about “ rights” . Rights are merely societies “ tolerance “ encoded into laws. History shows us that when placed in crisis , Societies can support ( or demand ) massive changes in “ rights” etc

Good luck with trying to legally defend any of those "god given" rights that have not been codified by man.

Re: Orcas have destroyed our rudder

Ways to scare them away - i might bring firecrackers next time:

Helicopters are often available to do surveillance of oil and look for animals when a spill occurs. By moving at certain altitudes toward the whales, a helicopter creates sound and disturbs the water’s surface, which can motivate or “haze” whales to move away from oiled areas.
Banging pipes, called oikomi pipes, are metal pipes about eight feet long which are lowered into the water and struck with a hammer to make a loud noise. These pipes have been used to drive or herd marine mammals. For killer whales, pipes were successfully used to help move several whales that were trapped in a freshwater lake in Alaska.
Underwater firecrackers can also be used to deter whales. These small explosives are called “seal bombs” because they were developed and can be used to keep seals and sea lions away [PDF] from fishing gear. These small charges were used in the 1960s and 1970s to help capture killer whales for public display in aquaria. Now we are using historical knowledge of the whales’ behavior during those captures to support conservation of the whales.

“fondle them away”
The entire manatee crew are in stitches. What a perfect ending to a thread which has gone so far off the rails into “rantville” that the light at the end of this tunnel is another train.
The manatee crew suggests the following things to consider before fondling orcas.
1. Flowers won’t work. Maybe a a dozen red salmon. They can’t smell.
2. Since you need to see under an Orca to determine sex, mirrors on your shoes.
3. Whisper sweet nothings. Orcas do hear extremely well. Better than dogs or even bats. An area in the lower jaw serves as the receptor. Right next to those big white teeth. Chose your words carefully.
4.Orcas are one of the only three species on the planet to have menopause .
Males never leave their mothers. Two facts to consider prior to fondling.
5. Picking up the dinner check. One orca can eat 200 kilos in a day.
6. No sneaking around! They sleep with one eye open so one half their huge brain is always fully awake.
The manatee crew are still rolling around on the deck in laughter mixed with an occasional off gas which naturally provokes more laughs.
Fondle them is post of the month. Brilliant.

Lol.... must be careful with that "fondling" advice
Just in case the Orca's.. "Me To" crusade awokens and their mothers lobby to outlaw any crew whose name begins and ends with man..
