Maybe you want to take a look at youtube. Or just follow the link I gave above where maritime preservation scientists (not boaters) run a website which had 20+ incidents in just one month. Incidents mean Orca at least touching the boats, not just playing in waves or diving under the boat.
Just because the website lists a number of "incidents" doesn't mean there have been only those incidents. Most are never reported unless there is severe damage.

This is indeed a problem in that area and not everyone can avoid it. I have been near Cadiz last weekend, and the locals clearly said this is a major problem for local boating. Incidents happen every other day, and small boat owners are terrified to go out. Fewer boats going out means increased chances for those few to get caught by the pod.

Sure this is easy to ignore on your side of the pond but if this was happening 1nm from your harbor?

Just in case you still insist it's just some delivery company making things up:

1- Sails down immediately
2- Start engine
3- Put boat in reverse 2/3knots
4- Have a drink and wait 15 mins

Propeller protects the ruder, the orcas go away!

Done, no more issues, no shooting, no guns, bombs, no defending your property, no pissing of wildlife lovers and all the other nonsense this tread is wondering towards.

From what I've seen in the various videos they all seem to show juveniles playing, one has found a new game and it's a case of follow the leader much like dogs chasing bicycles..
Methinks the engine in reverse gambit would probably work well as the tail suddenly becomes the head and confuses them..
If enough boats follow this tactic its likely the game will stop being fun.. Worth a try at least.

Thankfully I have no interest in being baited by your nonsense , and prove this by your rant , as a person lacking significant intelligence and IQ to warrant a scientific discussion,.

Yes, Yes I have to give up on so much emotion. As a fact we do live in the "post facts" period where supervised thinking is commanded and everyone who claims to have a degree can penetrate others with his small horizon. Furthermost they all earn money they never ever deserve.

Rock salt loaded shotgun shells should do the trick. Will not kill them, just teach them a lesson.

Probably just piss them off and then you can watch an actual attack

Based on this thread, it's clearly us humans who need to be taught a lesson! A little education goes a long way.

Re: Orcas have destroyed our rudder

Orcas in captivity have killed humans. I’d do a little bit more thinking before you start “teaching them a lesson”.
How did this whole Orca / boat issue start?
According to the marine mammal scientists, Orcas began to eat hooked fish. Nobody looked into who how many fish were available or if the Orcas were starving or not.
The fishermen “retaliated “ and tried to inflict pain on the Orcas by various means.
Kinda “teach them a lesson”.
Well, we can now see how well that worked out.
They are intelligent.
Put them in an aquarium and make them do tricks for food.
One day, they get tired of the same fun and pull the trainer to the bottom of the pool until they drown. This has happened several times.
I guess some people don’t get the point of the story in Moby Dick.
Retaliation is an expensive luxury. For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.
You sure you would rather tangle with a smart mammal with bigger teeth than you and up a few weight classes and not just alter course.
The manatee crew will load their pizza bazooka with salmon sandwiches with the crusts cut off. Hospitality vs hospital.
Happy trails to you
Captain Mark and his alternate mammal crew.

Re: Orcas have destroyed our rudder

Actually I will have to pass exactly their area in a week, going from Cadiz to Gibraltar. ?

I think I will just stay very close to the shore line. The area mostly looks like sandy beach and if any fin shows up I can go into really shallow waters (1.1m depth).

Well, hopefully by next year they will have moved into other regions. US east coast has much tastier rudders on the menu!

Sure. How else could they cross the atlantic? Hunt fish ?? Naaa...

ARC means plenty of rudder snacks along the way. Then a good meal in caribbean before they can enjoy endless supply of fresh rudders between Florida and Chesapeake.

thank you for this post!

and yes, "teaching them a lesson" could definitely backfire, especially if they are trying to tell us something about the fish they constantly see getting sucked out of the ocean.

and just to say that i am very pleased to see that the vast majority of those who have responded here really do love the sea and its creatures.

Re: Orcas have destroyed our rudder

Retaliation is an expensive luxury.

Yes and all communities who refused to do it have been beaten away. The Egypts, the Greeks, the Romans and the Germans ( ok they were conquered in the long run)

Strong folks always fight. That is the rule of nature and if an Orca can kill you he will. Same as the Huns. They killed and did not even think about others.

The only question is always: "Who is stronger" and our Uhs and Ohs are a clear sign of degeneration and that always killed all folks.

Yes we should do everything possible to keep our footprint small.
DO NOT BUY NEW THINGS. USE OR BUY OLD THINGS. This will keep it small.
But if someone fights us we have to fight back. That easy.

And if they do not stop it on pain.
OK, then kill them. Again That easy.
If we do not do it we are not worth living on this planet any more.
