Smile over heating

Heads up to all who start their inboard engines while the boat is still in the slings in the water. My Islander 30 MKII was launched and was hanging in the travellift slings as I started the engine. Not completely in the water, supported by the slings. Temp guage stated to rise towards overheating and I shut the engine down. As I pondered what could be causing this I noticed the aft sling was in a position to cover the water intake in the hull. Sure enough, when the sling was lowered and the engine restarted the temp returned to normal. What confused me was there was some water from the exhaust before, but apparently not enough to prevent overheating.

Had the water pump rebuilt before haulout which added to the mystery....
