Photoshopped! But why????

Bavaria Cruiser 37

This picture was in an ad in Cruising Helmsman. I was just idly looking at it, when I noticed the shrouds.... they just.... disappear. Then I looked a bit more closely... the photo's fake!

The headsail clew is Upwind of the sheet lead. The sheet doesn't line up with the blocks. The shadows aren't right. Even the bow wave and spray look funny.

Why would they do this? Weird...

Yes it is weird but if you look at the other photos. Photo 1 (photo shopped) is not the same yacht in remainder of the photos I doubt the Germans would do a thing like that so I guess the yanks can only explain the reason

Like we dont all know sailboat have Shrouds. Why Remove em? Only to make the main look prettier. But we "know" what boats are supposed to look like. That just look all wrong.

Re: Photoshopped! But why????

You mean I wasn't supposed to attached the shrouds to the boom?

I'm not sure the headsail sheet is upwind. It may just be an optical illusion.

My guess:
- Seasoned sailors know there are shrouds and will just shrug it off.
- This photo is geared towards newbies or men trying to convince the wife. Clutter is bad in advertising.

I don't think they removed the shrouds. I think they added the sails, which caused the shrouds to "disappear". If you look at the deck, the shadow of the boom is there, but not the main.

I actually think the whole boat has been cut and pasted in to the water, and the sails added later. There are weird shadows from some staunchions too...

Check the way the headsail sheets (don't) line up with the sheet lead blocks.

You might say that photo is 'shrouded in mystery!'
