Re: Please and Thank You

Okay, so we'll just type "National Marine Electronics Association protocol specification number 0183" instead of nmea0183?! We have fingers and keyboards, why not type all day?

Professionally speaking, that is exactly the way it is done, at least for the first usage of the term in a body of writing. Thereafter it is acceptable to only use the abbreviations.

+1

Out of context I would have guessed at "Radical Perineal Prostatectomy" (not to be confused with a "Retro Pubic Prostatectomy" - make very sure your surgeon is not relying on initialisms) or "Rape Pillage and Plunder" (nearly as painful ).

In context "Reverse Pension Plan" would not have been an unreasonable guess.

Richard has made a fair point about the use of obscure acronyms.

Re: Please and Thank You

My brain still automatically reads it as short for "recommended retail price" because that is what I have dealt with all my life. As stated before, now that I know what it really stands for I am non the wiser.

Re: Please and Thank You

I don't think this thread is about abbreviations or acronyms.

I think it's about manners.

And I'm mildly surprised.

I guess you could say the same about Estar's AIS thread.

I forget which side you batted for on that occasion? .

Re: Please and Thank You

I batted against the local godhead who disappointed me. I'd have batted against him if he said water is wet.
