Poole to Cherbourg

I'm planing my first trip to Cherbourg from Poole at the beginning of next month.
Does any one have any tips or advice?

I used to depart Poole 1hr before HW.. that should see you past Old Harry.. then lay my course for Cherbourg and allow 12hrs for the trip and the two tide cycles would have me more or less a couple of miles E or W of one of the entrances 5 miles out around slack water.. if you go over in Springs the tide French side runs pretty strong compared to Poole side so watch for that..
Other than that its pretty straight forward.. Enjoy the trip..
