Porta Bote shortening

Has anybody out there shortened a Porta Bote?
Is it do-able? I've got a stowage problem which I'm working through.

(I'm thinking only of the later square cornered transom models. Chop the transom off, then move it forward & rejoin to the hull & bottom by way of glue / heat weld / bolting / capping rail or a combination of all of these. And then maybe relocate the rear seat depending on how much the Bote has been shortened. Yes, I'm aware that the HIN detail will no longer align with the factual hull length and so there will be registration issues, but for now I am focussed on the technical possibilities.)

Thanks, Bert.

Re: Porta Bote shortening

What is the storage problem? Maybe shortening it is not the solution. I had one on my Hallberg Rassy Rasmus 35. It was on brackets outside the stantions.

Celestial, my same thoughts. You can set them on edge once collapsed and secure many different ways. Grasshopper, you don't say what length your Portabote is. Can you reveal it's length

Re: Porta Bote shortening

What I did was making a canvas sleeve for it which matched my lee cloths. In heavy weather you have to lash everything securely as the brackets were intended for surf and paddle boards.

Re: Porta Bote shortening

I think it would be easier to make a folding boat from scratch than it would be to shorten a Porta-Bote.
