Preparing for the first multi-day cruise - tips for the beginner

Hello everyone! I am preparing for my first multi-day cruise and would like some advice. My sailing will be 5 days on a 25ft sailing yacht. What things have become most important to you during such voyages? Maybe someone has recommendations for food, equipment, or things that are definitely not to be missed? I am also interested in the experience of night shifts while swimming and how best to plan rest. I would be grateful for any advice!

Where are you located - that makes a big difference in requirements.

sun screen
extra clothes
hot and dry food
sun glasses
filed float plan
container with extra clean fuel
extra fuel filters
bug spray
flashlights

you didn't say how many people, some say a hard fixed watch schedule but I say those that are tired should sleep and those not stand watch

Not sure what you mean by "the experience of night shifts while swimming"--but for a first cruise you should limit yourself to daylight hours, and not too long a day. 4 or 5 hours at a time is fun, 7 or 8 gets tiring and the last time I did an 11 hour day I was exhausted (I'm the only one keeping watch on my boat).

Plan out your stops in advance and have a back up plan. Don't get caught up in a schedule. You have to take what the weather gives you. Have fun!

Avoid swimming during night shifts.

Never leave the dock without Navy Rum -- it is essential equipment.
