Purchasing a boat overseas

I've bought several boats in the U.S and am familiar with the survey, legal agreement and purchase process, they've all gone well.


As I'm interested in a Swedish brand of sailboat, most of the boats tend to be in Europe, specifically Italy, Spain and the Med. I realize it's my lack of experience but, this seems like a good path to court catastrophe. The other option is to go through an International broker such as Berthon Yachts, however I cannot imagine it would be inexpensive.


Has anyone from the US purchased a sailboat in Europe?
