Quiet down noisy RM mech linear drive unit

New-to-me 1985 Brewer 12.8 has a great-working autopilot. But when below in the aft cabin I can hear the unit’s loud chugging and I wonder if there is any maintenance or service work that should be done to alleviate the problem. This unit might be as old as the boat, the parts are black and have the original Autohelm logo on them. Thanks, Will

Re: Quiet down noisy RM mech linear drive unit

If these are the Autohelm (later Raymarine) Type 1 linear drives they should be VERY quiet. If they are making significant noise they are having serious problems. Raymarine service centers overhaul them for a fixed price.
