Fresh water cooled engines rust out, too. It's just a matter of time before the salt water finds its way into the fatal spot.

Never saw a rusted out fresh water cooled engine when proper antifreeze is used and maintained . Regular cleaning of the heat exchanger and zinc maintance are key to longevity.
Mine while over 30 years old internally still looks like new
