Repairs inside the boom

Hello all,
I have a Selden boom and recently because I ignored my own basic rule - never force a rigging component if the action encounters untypical resistance. - and broke the outhaul locking arm. In itself this isn't a critical component - I can get a set of pliers on the broken arm's base and lock the outhaul.
However the question is: if an internal critical component in the boom such as a sheave breaks can the repair only be done at the manufacturer? I ask this because the pins holding the boom together do not seem to lend themselves to being taken apart by an end user. Has anyone tried to take their boom apart?

Thanks in advance for your comments.

Re: Repairs inside the boom

If they sell spare parts, then you should be able to take it apart for replacement. Blow apart diagrams can give a clue how to disassemble.

Not certain which Selden boom you have, but here is an example of a blow apart diagram for parts. https://theyachtrigger.com/wp-conten...08-present.pdf

Re: Repairs inside the boom

Selden has a pretty good spare parts selection - I presume its also a Selden mast? If so there is normally a serial number at the base somewhere, if you give this to Selden they will have all the info about your Mast and Boom and you will get the correct parts.

Alternatively go to a good rigger and they will sort it all out for you, including making custom sheaves, pins, bushes or whatever else is required.
