Wrong gender?

Re: Sailboat names

Like the name, but it’s fairly common, and you’d best expect to be spelling it a lot as you go through bridges. The day we plunked down the deposit on our first boat, we looked at one another and said, “Wow! Yesterday, this was only a dream”, so we named her “Yesterday’s Dream”

Re: Sailboat names

When naming a boat, your first thought should be, if you are in trouble, what will you say to the coast guard, "Pan Pan Pan, Boobie Hunt is in trouble".

Just saying.

I like Native American names for my boat.
(and if you think its offensive to name your boat after native Americans say it to someone who cares).

Re: Sailboat names

I once saw a boat named "Thank You Grandma".
Guess who financed it.

In this special case I'd name the boat "Donald" if I'd expect to be in trouble.

Re: Sailboat names

Apparently people have more difficulty selecting a name for their boat than for their children. But I was surprised how few boats name Nautilus there are with registered radio equipment on the ITU MARS database. See here: https://www.itu.int/mmsapp/ShipStation/list

Re: Sailboat names

All the famous ships named NAUTILUS where submarines! Is Your boat or ship supposed to be, and always stay, a surface watercraft ?

Thula Thula

I bought my boat to an English couple ten years ago in Croatia, and I didn't change the name. It's from an African lullaby, very well known all other swahili southern Africa.
They were working in Mozambique and their babies were rocked with that song.
They kept the name for the boat, as the waves gently rocked them too in anchorages.
The name is free to use.

South Africans are crying when they hear the song (second video).

Re: Sailboat names

that name is terrible/perfect for a sailboat since nautilus is a snail.

Re: Sailboat names

Name after a lady: mother, wife or daughter. A sailboat is always a lady.

I'm not sure about this. There was a boat on Vancouver Island many years ago called (in large letters 6 inches high along both sides):

"I'LL NEVER BUY ANOTHER BENETEAU AGAIN!"

There must be a story, though I've never figured it out.

Another favorite from the Hudson River:
"BURNIN' HUNK O' LOVE".

I think Nautilus is a good name. When you call it out on the radio it won't sound dumb and people will probably not mishear it (which is my basic rule of thumb).

There might be a song in that.

Synopsis; So you and your dog (who already had a name), get along great and you and your boat (already named), also get along great. Then a woman, comes into your life, already with a name. So you marry her, thus changing her name; and the trouble ensues.

Working title: Divorce Sail -- (It only cost me half my stuff -- to get ALL my life back). (3 chord country tune...)
