I kept my boat at Port Imperial for two years. Nj side of Hudson equivalent
Of 42nd street Manhattan. Huge current you must time your transit both north and south with the tide. Loads of barge, freighter, cruise ship and ferry traffic. West Point is real pinch and you will need your motor. Construction around the Tappan Zee.
Bridge, Run in daylight. There already has been one fatal accident with an unmarked and unlighted stationary construction barge.
If you go up the Chesapeake then you must transit the C & D canal and come back down the Delaware Bay and then your back in the Atlantic. If you eliminated going around the Peninsula you would save something like 150 miles
Be carefully some of the inlets on the jersey shore are very shallow
Barnegat Bay in Particular.
Depending on my schedule I might be available to crew from VA north
