Nice photos, Soundbounder! I was able to take a tour of the ship and speak with her crew when she was in Reedville, Virginia a few years ago. She's a beauty, for sure!

Thanks!
I have seen quite a few tallships and schooners this summer, and in my opinion, the Virginia is the nicest of them all.

Soundbounder & hud3 - If you guys like schooners check out 1930 Schooner MISTRESS - Home. Mistress is just gorgeous, and Kat has put together a wonderful and extensive site, including lots of schooner pix. The "Memory Mondays" part is not accessible to me using Firefox, I have to use Internet Explorer.

I can't help but love the classic boat designs! I've seen some beauties down here in the Caribbean from time to time. Mistress is a looker, too.

OK, you want really pretty schooners, how about:

and

Heritage_VC_fog1_001

Both taken in Maine (home of the really pretty schooners).

:-)

Here are two sites that have some beautiful photos of the Virginia, as well as other ships at the Schooner Festival in Gloucester last week:

Thanks for the photos, I just came across this thread. I actually worked on the American Eagle in the first photo for 9 years, it looks like you caught us right in Rockland harbor one day. The other picture of the Heritage and Victory Chimes is nice as well.

For people interested in seeing these vessels, there are several events in Maine which can be looked up on the Maine Windjammer Association website or you can just sail to the midcoast and you will definitely see at least a few. Other fun events in my opinion are the Gloucester Schooner Festival and the race in the Chesapeake.
