What has your experience been sailing in the Sea of Cortez (esp near La Paz) in the month of October? I'm leaving for a week's charter 10/14-21. wunderground says 95*/75* with wind topping out at 12. any 1st hand experience that time of year? thanks heaps and happy 4th of July everyone.

Brace yourself for the usual internet repertoire of "ain't it awful."

Cold....hot....windy....people dying....lives in jeopardy.

Re: sea of cortez weather

I've been down there the last 2 years. Once the first week in Oct and the next the first week in Nov.

We all preferred October for the unbelievably warm water and fewer bugs on shore (not sure if it was the season or the heat keeping the bugs away) but it was hotter

In October temps were hot in the day, but we liked going in the water to cool down. We also ran AC to cool the boat down when we wanted which was really nice. I would say it was around 5deg hotter day and night in Oct vs Nov.

There is always a possibility of hurricanes and tropical storms in October which is something to watch for.

It cooled down enough at night to trail run on Isla San Francisco.. see drone footage link.

And a loong video really just meant for family members with poor audio, but still gives you an idea what you have to look forward to! (Listen to the bull sea lions as the pups are young that time of year)

You are nearing the cusp of weather change but should be good and may be hotter than you think... at least some years. Drag a weighted rubber squid or silver spoon for Mahi or Tuna (spoon). I don't remember the "northers" starting that early.
