Re: Sea Sickenss - The Holy Grail of Pills.....

Nile Compounding Chemist
Home makes a great anti seasickness pill that wont cause drowsiness and is very effective.
You can order online or go into the shop if you are near Arncliffe in Sydney.

One ear plug, certainly inexpensive and non-invasive. No drug side effects, no drug interactions and safe for children. Certainly worth a try.

Also Motioneaze essential oil drop behind each ear has worked wonders for me and many that have used it on my recommendation. Again it is inexpensive, has no drug side effects, no drug interactions and safe for children. Again worth a try.

Interesting, and that makes sense. I've used two earplugs to sleep on passage when not short handed, and have strongly suspected it reduced queasiness - but I use the word "suspect" because also I'm lying down at the time. Never tried one earplug while working, but will certainly do so.

SCOPOLAMINE

Please be aware that scop patch can have WICKED side effects post removal. I had severe withdrawal, panic attacks, depression, and passed out and smashed the floor resulting in several stitches in my forehead. Effects lingered for months and decreased slowly. If you are sensitive to the med it is truly awful and not worth the risk. The stories on ask a patient and other drug review sites are scary.

Interesting. I'm going to buy some ear plugs. Thanks for posting!

Just one little quibble; I didn't need to sit through a video to learn this. I guess I'm the last of a generation which actually prefers to read something myself (takes just a few seconds) rather than sit through a long, boring monologue.
[End of rant. Sorry.]

Capt Tom,

You are not alone. But it seems now it’s getting so most news stories are videos.

It’s not just that fewer people read, fewer people read effectively.

Here here! I can read much faster than some knucklehead who loves the sound of their own voice can ramble through what should be an extremely simple and terse explanation.

Re: Sea Sickenss - The Holy Grail of Pills.....

correct, the Scop patches can be a prblm so in the UK they are limited to doctor's prescription only bec of the history of hallucinations. Of course, what we do not know is whether the guys who suffered hallucinations followed the rules , washed hands before and after, never touched the patch and then their eyes, etc. I like the idea of putting a plaster across the patch to avoid water getting at it and to avoid the risk of touching it and then yr eyes. Great idea.

Thanks for restoring my faith in humanity. If we all stick together, we might beat the "pivot to video" yet.

And sorry again for the thread drift. I really have learned a number of good things from this thread. Like why Scope is Rx-only. Previously all I'd heard were glowing reports of how great it works. Nothing about side effects, withdrawal and the dangers of touching the patch with fingers.

Promethazine (phenergan) works well for sea sickness as well as being a really good medication for serious allergies. In tablet form or injectable for serious cases for those that are allowed to use it. A definite medication to have on a cruising boat.

Zofran is mainly for terminal cancer patients as an anti emetic and it should work as it’s probably the most powerful anti emetic on the market currently

I tried everything before the scope patch. Patch is only thing that works and it’s great. Always worked for me BUT I realized I have to put it in the night before. Also i have read on Canadian Pharmacy website that Transderm works fine too

Re: Sea Sickenss - The Holy Grail of Pills.....

Since 1999 I have had a product called Reliefband on board to address seasickness for crew members. It has never failed to effectively treat it. While I usually administer ginger products to start (Ginger ale, ginger snap cookies, raw candied ginger)address nausea, if that fails then the Relifeband. The beauty of it is that it has no medicinal side effects like drowsiness and is worn only when needed.
It was originally designed to treat nausea in dialysis patients, and it was subsequently approved by the FAA for use by pilots to address motion sickness and by the FDA to treat morning sickness in pregnant women. I gave it to both of my daughter-in-laws during their pregnancies for multiples with great results.
Simply put: In my experience: It works!
PS: I do not own any stock in the company.
