Shipping Cost

Hey all, new to the forum.

Just purchased an older Pearson 39 with he intent on doing a mini refit, cleaning and rigging her up. Hoping to splash in Florida - problem is the boat is in Maine.

I tried using the U Ship site for a quote, but the website gives me a range of $4000 to $6000 and most of the quotes have been over $7700.

Looking for any advice.

PS - I'm not sure I have the sailing ability (or nut sack) to sail her from Maine to Florida with just me and my girl.

Re: Shipping Cost

ThAts about the right price for transport. Don’t forget to add travel lift and crane costs at both ends to that number.
Also add a rigger at both ends, unless you’re rigging the mast yourself.

Re: Shipping Cost

$3.25/mile, would put us about $5200 according to this site:
Boat Hauling Rates

This site gives me an estimate of $4000-$6000
https://www.uship.com/

Any ideas on why the additional $1700-$2500?

Re: Shipping Cost

If the engine is reliable and you have 3-4 weeks, motor her down thru the Cape Cod canal, inside Long Island and the ICW. Way more fun, and for that $ you could stay in a marina every night...

Rates around here are based mainly on beam -- with a 12' beam the rates here are around $3.50 a mile. Rates will vary depending on the likelihood of the trucker finding loads going the other way. I think what you're finding is in the ballpark.

You may be able to pay an experienced captain to accompany you, for much less than trucking cost, if you have the time and inclination.
