Sleeping at Anchor VS Sleeping on Land or in Marina

Look at this data.

I’ve always liked to claim I’ve slept more nights at anchor than I have on land, but recently, land started winning out because of the boat build.

Last night was my first night sleeping at anchor again in years and I think the data speaks for itself. Ha ha ha.

The awful sleep I got other nights was a bit worse than normal due to a lot of stress getting ready to leave and an epoxy exposure. However, there is still a huge difference. Apparently, I’m just more used to sleeping out here at anchor.

over the last 30 years I'd guess I've spent a total of 3-4 months sleeping on land. Each and every one was a long restless night.

I really thought it was going to be a lot harder to adapt to sleeping at anchor again. It was really easy apparently according to the sleep data above.

And wow. That’s a pretty good record over 30 years. I had several years of my at anchor sleeping taken away by the boat project. Pretty cool that you didn’t have that. That’s quite a record you have.

I've done three total rebuilds (almost all in water) in that time where a sawzall was the primary tool. I'd just shove the tools aside and lay down to sleep

I'd do best if I could sleep from 6am - 10am, and again from 6pm - 10pm. In a normal night I get 4-5 hrs sleep.

I know that struggle as you can see. For me that stuff will happen when my allergies to epoxy kicked in. I would wake up at 3 AM ready to throw up. I would have horrendous allergy attacks in the middle of the night. Kind of set my sleeping pattern.

But, it also seems to happen anytime I’m really stressed out. Getting this boat ready to go was very stressful. That could have been part of the factor with waking up in the middle of the night as it is seen. That’s also when I do some posting on the forum because I can’t sleep.

I have found that if you stay up a little bit later, and just fight it, sometimes you can sleep through the night better.

I’m more at peace sleeping on anchor than in a harbor or on land.

But to find that peace you would have to trust your anchor and rode.

Re: Sleeping at Anchor VS Sleeping on Land or in Marina

Well, this Lee shore, huge fetch anchorage certainly isn’t helping with the 3am wake-up.

It’s 3:25am and I’m bouncing all over the place and my stomach is a little off from it.

Trying to go back to sleep but this just reinforces the problem.
