Sorry for the loss of your cat.

not politically correct and I know it was just being a snake but.... snakes are why God made the 410 shotgun--- there are only two things in life I am afraid of and at the top of the list is snakes

Firing even a .410 below decks is not what I would call a really good idea! If nothing else the powder smoke soils the curtains.

And it might do the cat some collateral damage...

I have a 410 next to my bed on land. Funny statement. I’m sure you were tongue in cheek when you wrote it. Discharging a firearm in a foreign country. Holy Sh!t Batman, what were you smoking? Go directly to jail and rot.

I can't see putting little tiny holes in a boat.:-) Something proactive to keep them out makes more s sense.

Turnabout’s fair play, then... can’t get mad at someone for killing the snake (protecting their home) and/or eating it.

Guarantee you if a snake killed one of my cats, I’d be discovering what snake tastes like.

Really? We're talking a 3 m. (10 ft.) long python here. It would be pretty quick when hungry, and probably able to swallow a small teenager. And how would you kill it on your Westerly Centaur? How would you get it to leave? If you are a person of small physical stature, it might even think you'd make a meal!

Such a snake will suffocate prey pretty quickly, then squash it to make it more swallowable.

This had to have been a horrible experience for both cat and owner. It might be time to get a aluminum grille screen for the companionway there in Indonesia, to keep out the unwanted.

Re: Snakes on a boat

Very sad for the cat and owner but what would the python have done if there had been no cat?

And how was the snake removed?

A 10 ft python's got a fair chance if it had the element of surprise. Catch a person sleeping, or cornered and empty handed, sure. Catch that same person awake with a knife in their hand... that's a bit different. Python's got a good bite, so the person's not likely to come out of it entirely unharmed, but five inches of good sharp steel makes for a better bite.

Don't underestimate a person defending their home & their family, including pets.
