Snakes on a boat

Woke up at 2:30. My cat made a strange noise. It was sleeping next to me on the floor of my cabin. Turned on the light and there was a 3 metre python around my cat, the whole snake.
I am in Langkawi. Has anything like this happened to anyone else?
Cat did not make it, neck broken, and I'm heart broken.Click image for larger version

Sorry to hear about your kitty cat. I'd be heartbroken too.

Sorry to hear about your kitty. What an experience.

Were you anchored or in a berth?

Re: Snakes on a boat

Boat adjacent to us in Delaware had a 6’ snake in the cockpit one morning. I picked it up and threw it out.

Another time I had a snake crawl up our chain and wraps himself around it over the roller. I had a hard time to get him out, it was chilly and he didn’t want to go in the water. That was North Carolina.

Sorry about the kitty. At 3 meters it might have been you in your sleep.

Sounds scarey. Yet why not make a sequel to Snakes on a Plane......the money may keep you cruising longer

is the snake dead? Kitty needs its enemy's bodies to pave the way to the happy hunting grounds.

Re: Snakes on a boat

That would freak anyone out. What an unhappy ending for the Cat. My dog died four years ago and I still can't bring myself to get another dog. He was one of the finest creatures to ever walk this earth. Loved him as a son. People who don't love animals don't know what they are missing....and perhaps just as well.

Just a snake doing what it normally does, you can't get mad at it. Sad about the kitty though, you would think kitty would have woken up from the first touch, they are normally quite nervous, guess the snake was quicker or kitty had been on the boat long enough to become complacent.

RIP fuzzball.

Maybe but I reckon a snake sliding into a yacht (in a marina presumably) and taking the kitty is not what one expects. This is not normal.

Re: Snakes on a boat

So sorry about the cat - our pets are family.

Pythons are pretty powerful but for scary I would be concerned about poisonous snakes. Back in 1994 another boat in Costa Rica had a poisonous water snake slither aboard and sun itself on the solar panels. These snakes originated in Asia and are deadly even to humans. One of many reasons to screen every opening on a boat.
