Check out the Eagle Track GPS It has unlimited tracking and all the alarm functions, and most important is has two way communication with the boat,, Spot is only one way, u cant turn on alarm or activate bilge pump from other locations... Its less expensive and the Satellite version uses Iridium which is true two way communication unlike Global Star...

Initial purchase price of the EAGLE TRACK ET-STP100 (satellite version) is MUCH higher though. Check the prices.

Spot has worked great for me.... Bought mine about 5 years ago.... One caveat I would watch out for... Use a prepaid debit card or the like for the service... Automatic annual billing somehow went from the $99 original to $180... And was hard to get out of/refund the year or two I didn't need it...

We've had our Spot for over eighteen months in which it has very succesfully tracked us for getting on 9,000 nautical miles in Australia, South East Asia, the Mediterranean and Atlantic.

It updates our blog and facebook automatically plus texts and emails our family. And I've only just changed the batteries for the first time, as a precaution. Thanks Spot.
