Re: SSB tapped

Surely your microwave is a Faraday cage... stick your 802 in there.. 30 seconds should stop the popcracklesnap... or maybe not.

very sad
And why it was never given compliance by the ACMA for use in Aus lol (although I know of a few getting around)

ACMA was on to it years ago...

Re: SSB tapped

Thankfully I got rid of our microwave, at the time we were just looking for more good storage room in the galley but now I'm glad that no one can spy on us using the microwave, sometimes we just get lucky!
Mike, ya the bloody Brits are always spying on ya, maybe Boatie or Dock what's his name are involved

Re: SSB tapped

While I think this thread has merit for it's humour content, I am concerned that some people might not actually understand the fact that it is supposed to be humorous. I would like to make it clear to all that read this thread that radio messages (as far as the boating world is concerned) are inherently available to anyone listening. No privacy can be assumed or expected.

Re: SSB tapped

We're pretty sure it was the Russians, although no evidence. But it was them!

Well I thought it was pretty obvious, don't see many taking it seriously at all

HEY!!!!! You are getting into religion (colander) and I am pretty sure there are rules about religion and politics being off limits on this board !
Bringing my holy pasta into this discussion is entirely unnecessary !!!

Re: SSB tapped

It is fairly easy to encrypt radio communications (Pactor is encrypted, I believe) but I do not think it is allowed for the general public. Which is a conflict with the way Pactor modems work and I never understood why. In any case, the lack of encryption on high seas radio is a feature in my opinion, not a concern. It is anonymous too so what are you worried about?
