St. Augustine Cruiser Net Thanksgiving

Folks,

As many of you know St. Augustine, FL took a huge blow by the hurricane that came through this past month. Many businesses and many sailors lost their homes and took huge financial hits that they are struggling to recover from.

Also, as many of you know, the STA cruisers net started an annual Thanksgiving pot luck several years ago. As a moderator I can attest that much of the food, alcohol, and entertainment expenses came from donations from the local community in addition to the sailing community. All of the Turkeys and much of the "big" food had to come from homes in the community with large ovens and so forth. The local church provided many tables, chairs, and so forth.

We went back and forth about the possibility of being able to move forward with a Thanksgiving this year... the popularity of the seasonal event had grown very quickly (we had 99 last year, so not as big as some but we are trying) but so many of the people and businesses that we depend on to support the event are unable to help this year because of the aforementioned hurricane.

Faced with the possibility of not being able to throw a dinner this year we sought out ideas on how we could make the event happen and fortunately we were able to find someone that had the capability and energy to make it happen. Unfortunately, funding is particularly low. As such, we have started a GoFundMe page (listed below). I am hoping that if you are planning on passing through STA this year and enjoy the hospitality of the city and of the STA cruisers net that you can reach into your pockets and donate just a small amount to help assist this effort this year. Although the smallest donation is listed at $25, we will even take 2 cents. Anything helps.

Sorry for the begging but we really want to help get STA back up on it's feet and continue to be a great resource for all the sailors heading south on the ICW.

Kindest Regards,

Alex
