Stencil for spinnaker graphic?

Folks,
I got a reasonably new second hand spinnaker, which is all white, and I’m looking into stenciling a graphic onto it.
Can anyone recommend a company that could make a stencil? I could of course turn to sailmakers (the chute itself is a North Sails), but then I’m looking at 500 USD for the stencil alone, they work with expensive vendors I guess.
Thank you!
Anton

Re: Stencil for spinnaker graphic?

A stencil which would mask a sail would be a bargain at $500.00USD. I’m a hobby artist as well as painting cars bikes and a couple of my boats with top quality masking sheets. I don’t know anything which would mask a sail. Also it’s a light wind sail so adding flex to paint adds weight. I’d consider an ink based clear. Most clears have adhesion like primers. Even proper thinners and extenders have same kind of adhesion. Water doesn’t so never use it to thin.
I’d ask North before I tried my ideas on an expensive sail free or no. Free hand with light weight goo you could blend a few colours or a few shades of one.
You can get a flex clear add ink to colour required. It’s the same way we make Candy colours. You can add a silk like chemical for a pearl like effect.

Anton in order to provide some helpful feedback it would useful to know:
  • kite material
  • size of graphic
  • number of colours
  • and do you want the graphic on both sides? If so will it work as a mirror image?

Grant, thank you. One side only, the kite is nylon and white. North is doing it for me, I got someone online to create an eps file (or ai, don’t remember) for $50, and they will print the stencil from this file and do the painting. The graphic is about 15’ tall by maybe 5’, roughly.
