Sterilizing water using Cloazone?

Hi all,

I typically use our watermaker along with a little chlorine and filters to make sure our water is good to drink.

I've read things about chlorine causing some corrosion on aluminum water tanks.

I also read in my boat's manual (10 years old) that they recommend using "Clonazone" to sterilize the tanks.

Has anyone used this stuff? I can't find much info online.

Thanks in advance,

Can't help you with your question but suggest you ask the question in the Plumbing Systems section of Engineering and Systems ... might get you more responses. I don't have aluminum tanks but have seen lots if discussion there involving them.

Disinfectants don’t kill bacteria and don’t sterilize containers

Could you elaborate further? I thought that the definition of "disinfectant" was pretty much "a substance that destroys bacteria."

I should clarify - disinfectants are ineffective at killing all bacteria. I was trying to make an important distinction between disinfection and sterilization. The former is a feel-good approach to healthy water many people don’t thoroughly understand.

Perhaps Clonazone is a sterilizing agent? The manual accurately or inaccurately says "use Clonazone to sterilize the tanks."

This is why I asked if anyone knew what Clonazone was.

Does anyone know about Clonazone?

No, not much. But sodium dichloroisocyanurate (AKA troclosene sodium) is related, well known for this purpose and is relatively non-corrosive to aluminum (much less than bleach). Search "aqua mega tabs."
