Smile Takacat Sport

Has anyone had any experience with the takacat sport - especially how it handles in waves and surf.

Re: Takacat Sport

Welcome to CF!

First immediate thought was that Tami (tamicatana) has one and loves it... four winds linked the thread I was thinking of...

Yes we love it - we are going through a complete refit at the moment. rebedding everything, new 10 inch cleats, new rigging and a new beta 30 engine. Will be shipping it back to Anacortes, Washington in the spring and will be sailing mostly in canadian waters. How do you like yours. We have had ours since 2008.

Re: Takacat Sport

George,
Got mine in 2010. Long time previous owner took care of her and did the expensive upgrades. Yanmar, furler, propane, ac/heat built in. I've been living aboard and just trying to keep up the routine maintenance.

Been daysailing multiple times each week on average, currently wandering around the gulf coast.

To me: a great sailing coastal cruiser. Big enough and easy to singlehand. Any breath of wind will move her. And a fresh breeze will move her to near hull speed. I think it's a well built, and solid boat.

Especially like the more traditional style exterior mixed with a more modern (in '78) interior with the pan construction instead of all wood interior.

Not thrilled about the v-drive though, except the level engine position. Need to service the stuffing and clamps on the log. And I'll be darned if I know how the heck to reach all that being directly below the oil pan. Need to face that challenge soon.

Hope I'm still aboard and sailing at 83 like previous owner.

Sorry for the drift. Hey, somebody tell Goerge about their takacat!

Cheers
