Tampa to Miami

I am planning to sail from Tampa to Miami this summer. I have a 5ft draft. Any suggestions on the best way to cross.

What type boat? What "air draft"? How much (if any) sailing experience do you have? What is your range under power? Crew size/composition?

Tampa to Miami

Just did this the other way. Not near a chart right now. But I took channel by 5. Mind your chart as there are a few spots to mess up. I had no issues drawing 4.5'. Bigger issue was the darn crab pots on this side of FL.

With 5' draft I assume you can get under the Key Largo Bridge if you take the ICW. Single handing I took the ICW from Miami until I got off the flats and into the GOM. Hit the GOM and did a couple of all nighters. Great stuff.

YMMV based on vessel condition and crew

Re: Tampa to Miami

Hi. I have sailed extensively from Miami through the Bahamas. I am not familiar with sailing the keys and around the southwest Florida coast. I am about to buys some charts and wanted to get some tips from people who have done the trip. Can you recommend any good anchorages around the southwest tip and the keys before cutting over the bank? Thanks.

My trip is from Tampa to the upper Keys and then crossing to the Bahamas. I am planning on going the first week of June. I have a 4 foot 8 draft.
