Thanks to Tellie at Spectra Watermakers

It's always a problem when your watermaker abruptly quits working. But when your sitting in Honduras under a country wide lockdown it's a really big problem.

Tellie to the rescue....shared a couple of PM's with Tellie and he gave me some excellent advice that allowed me to have our Spectra watermaker up and running in minutes.
What a wonderful resource we have on this forum, priceless!!

I have good thoughts for all the cruisers stuck at anchor somewhere and how great it is that vendors can help out.

Re: Thanks to Tellie at Spectra Watermakers

The cool thing is my problem was not mentioned in the troubleshooting guide in the manual. So I really had no idea what to try next.
Tellie has had so much direct experience that when I carefully described exactly what had happened he Instinctly new it was one of two things and it turned out to be his first one.
It's hard to describe the relief you get when you simply follow some simple instructions and it fires right up. There are no planes coming in here and it takes close to a month to ship any parts so no one was happier than I was as long as that watermaker is putting out we can last a long time on our provisions.

Tellie is everything that is right about the Ft Laud area.

Had a customer with a new-to-them SABA 50. So we called Tellie for some consumables. He came out to the boat to deliver them and gave the owners a primer on their water system.

That is why folks who deal with him are “customers for life”.

I checked for blockages, cleaned the salt water strainer and checked the filter. All was OK. I cycled the pump a few times and all I got was a low hum. Thought it was the pump head assembly. Everything I read of this head assembly showed it failing over time, giving you less water and it became obvious that it was time to change it. Maybe the shaft sheared off, lots of stuff ran through my head but to no avail. Nothing in the manual seemed to refer to this breakdown.
I PM'd Tellie and he asked me a couple of questions and then said my first thought is that the pump lost its prime. That didnt make any sense to me. He suggested I start a back flush on it and see if the pump started to work and if it did simply switch it back to salt water and I should be good to go. He added that even though I was getting a bit more than factory specs out of it maybe it's time to buy a new head assembly as the age of the unit suggested the pump maybe getting a bit weaker.
I really didnt have much faith in it working but I did as he suggested and the pump immediately started to work and pressured up to normal specs. I switched it over to salt and it's been working perfectly ever since....so I guess this gentleman knows exactly what he speaks of, I'm certainly grateful for his help.
