Re: The LARGEST towable boat... weight not an issue... ?

Go fast boats are 8.5' wide. Some are 44' long. Without hassle, that is about the max. The Baja 38 Special is slighly wider, I think 9'

In RV type trailers many are only 8' wide with a few upscale RV's being 8.5' wide.
They too go to about 44'.

So if you want to tow without special permits and added hassle stick to 8.5' wide and 40ish feet long.

I've seen open 40's sitting canted on flatbeds to get by the width problem

Hey guys, when they launch an Open 40 is it done off the trailer or is it a crane assist?

I believe a crane based on photos I've seen.

Re: The LARGEST towable boat... weight not an issue... ?

Why largest? Why build? If its a mobile multihull racer you seek, look no further than a Stiletto 23 or 27. I campaigned an S23 around the Great Lakes for several years. Trailer, boat and all gear weighed 1200 lbs-easily towed by my A4.

Boat assembles\disassembles ready to race from the trailer with its own gin pole in 90 minutes. Quite remarkable really...and the boat is fast. 17 kt beam reach in 15 kts of breeze...I personally experienced 24.6 kts (GPS) in 30 kts with five 200 pounders on board.

There is a race-ready beauty in Boston for $8k...

Re: The LARGEST towable boat... weight not an issue... ?

Bob Perry has designed a few cruisers up to 40' in length which will fit inside a CONEX box, so they'd be narrow enough to be towed sans special permits. And Bolger's done similar with boats like Loose Moose II.
