Re: Things You Don't Like About Cruisers . . .

Have only run into a couple of cruisers that were some type of trouble as far as personality goes. But have never met a cruiser whom I think wouldn't help you out in a tough spot. But I must admit that there are some cruisers who just don't know or care about how to take care of their boats and want all other cruisers to do their work for them. You know the ones, when they pull into an anchorage we all put our work clothes on or pull anchor. I'm honestly puzzled how they make it beyond first port of call.
Single handers are an odd but super group of cruisers, good to drink with and talk story with.
On the whole cruisers are the greatest folks I've ever met.
Oh ya, there was that one French guy at Minerva Reef with the 5 beautiful babes on board, wasn't sure if I liked him or not.

Re: Things You Don't Like About Cruisers . . .

Crusers, isn't that the name for toddlers still in diapers. I find many more good than bad people out on the water. But then I've only been messing around in boats for a little over half a century, I think I need a lot more time to form an opinion. Only three more days to home

Re: Things You Don't Like About Cruisers . . .

There's these 2 guys at the marina we have our boat moored at, they're brothers. The 1st guy is full of opinions - although does know about boats systems - rarely leaves the dock other than for local trips, crotchety as hell whether sober or drunk and has a million reasons for why our boat won't make it abroad. The 2nd guy has been a delivery captain, ocean racer, lived a couple of years in Hawaii & a bunch more in Thailand, is always friendly & "makes suggestions" rather than giving opinions, in regard to our prep, always encouraging us to get going in mid-Sep, whether "THE LIST" is finished, or not. I like both of these guys to yap with but the 2nd guy wins, hands-down, as the type I'd most like to encounter along the way!

Re: Things You Don't Like About Cruisers . . .

I've met several long-range-cruisers in-transit at my area of the marina. (Some are spending considerable time here recovering from physical injuries.) Anyway, they have uniformly been kind, pleasant, and helpful, and definitely not irritating or hostile.

Offering drinks and snacks at my boat's christening helped to cement positive relationships.

Yeah... but sometimes you just feel like having a 'grump', and it feels so much better if you can at least pretend someone else is to blame

Those folks are everywhere and they make life their own personal hell. So you smile and remember that it is THEIR Hell, and thank God(or whoever you pray to) that you aren't them.
