Those red stains on yellow diesel cans

If you diesel cans are stained I stumbled on a way to get rid of the red and make them yellow again. Put a coating of sun block on them. I did this trying to protect the cans from uv this summer. A couple weeks later I noticed that the red was disappearing. Applied another coating and now the cans are almost all yellow again.You can probaly find sun block now at the dollar store.
