Re: Thought I'd seen it all

This one belongs in the "how to sail into a slip" thread. Ya gotta admit, one might be a little jealous of his ability to maneuver in tight spaces, and reverse sure would be sweet too.

Great installation except he didn't caulk the yellow wires were they penetrate the hull, and the allen-head bolts for the motor clamp aren't stainless steel.

Love the cabling! I guess we could assume it is still a work in progress, but a dob or two of Sika or silicone, is not going to cut it!

Ahh, all you nay sayers will be ashamed when you see t his chap towing four waterskiers through a slalom course, maneuvering with confidence with his unique and innovative propulsion system. Some folks just can't abide innovation...

That’s a perfectly acceptable cable pass through according to these guys.

I declined the installation of that particular thruster.

To be fair, it looks like they used BOTH.

I declined the installation of that particular thruster.
I was referring more to the mess of it than the size of it - either way, good luck to the owner.

Re: Thought I'd seen it all

Reminds me of the good old days of parallel parking my Islander 21 using both the rudder and the outboard to maneuver the boat. I got some amazing looks of disgust transitioning to amazement as I put the boat into a tight space on the side of a dock between two expensive yachts. I have to give this sailor two points for just going for it.

I could see it as in-harbor assist, but to replace the venerable iron gennie? but as Graham Chapman queried in MT & the holy grail...."What times are these!"

A yellow wire with a red stripe and a yellow wire with a black stripe. May not quite be the intent of ABYC, but if you go by the stripes then it does make some sense. And perhaps the installer has a 12V bank and a 48V (or whatever) bank for the motor and so has elected to use a striped yellow cable for all of the higher voltage system in order to clearly distinguish that wiring from the 12V wiring.

And as for the different colors at the motor, the motor leads appear to be potted, so he had to accept whatever the motor vendor provided.
