Thru hull light install?

Hey y'all just curious if anyone here has installed any thruhull lights below the water line. Our boat is on the hard and thought I might throw some on, just not sure how involved it is. We are looking at the Seablaze 3 or X. Pretty small hole to drill for the wires and three fiberglass screws to attach. My question is do you need to sand all of the antifouling off down to the barrier coat or can you just drill the holes fill with sealer and be done. Or just let the yard do it.

Anyways thanks in advance.

Will

Re: Thru hull light install?

All below-waterline holes need to be properly completed.

When I did mine, I drilled the four holes slightly oversize, then used West System epoxy w/ filler to fill the holes completely. I let it harden, then drilled the holes again to the proper size.

This method protects the fiberglass from water intrusion, should the sealant ever fail.

On mine, the SeaBlaze X lights are mounted over barrier coat. The bronze housing has barrier coat then bottom paint applied.

There are people who drill, seal and screw the lamps, probably w/o problems, but my installations are always over the top.
