Tropical Storm Bertha

Just about to clobber Martinique and Dominca and the Puerto Rico

Its not all that strong... But interestingly the projected track has changed a lot from east of St Martin to well west of st Martin.

Some boats hurriedly left S t Martin to head to "safety" in Grenada when they thought the storm was going east of St Martin and have now run right slap bang wallop into a full size tropical storm.

All I can say is do not sail in the wrong season! People have had months to adjust their position but now wait and throw their lives to heaven or hell.

Re: Tropical Storm Bertha

Hey Mark,

That's a good map showing the expected track and all of the location names. Do you mind sharing what site you use to obtain this map?

Thanks
Steve

Hi Steve its one of three new hurricane tracking aps I have for my iPad... two are called "Hurricane" so it helps to see this one has a small red cross in the logo and says its from the American red Cross. its useless except for that nice graphical feature.

the other "Hurricane" doesn't tell you who makes it and is bloody useless and just relays infor from NOAA.

The third one has one groovy feature (but everything else is bloody useless) "Hurricane Track" has a neat feature where the iPads GPS/Location services is used to show you exactly where the storm is when you hold the iPad up. See the storm location in the very top of the screen?

Re: Tropical Storm Bertha

Thanks Mark, for the info, most appreciated. So where are you now - St Martin? It's good that it is not a big one at this stage.

Yes, I can do with tame, and a long way away. Sea Life is on a 2 1/5 ton embedded mooring so the idea this season is to stay here and hope nothing drags down on me.

Re: Tropical Storm Bertha

Yep, sounds good, stay safe. Shame that I didn't get the chance to come and say hi and have a beer when I was in St Martin last year but we were flat out preparing the big cat for the Pacific crossing.

I'll be good to shout you a couple should our paths cross in the future.

Damn did not know you were there. We spent half a year and did not run into you. Second time.

I think I have to place some tracker on you or something so that we can finally have a beer!

Re: Tropical Storm Bertha

Hey Mark, we are happy to see you are snugged in there in St. Martin. Unfortunately we are sitting, watching and helpless here in Denver as Bertha is bearing down on Puerto Rico where Smart Move is sitting strapped down on land. We hope all is well with you, Robyn & Barry

Re: Tropical Storm Bertha

There's plenty of good anchorages between St.Martin and Grenada so not a big deal

Re: Tropical Storm Bertha

So what are the latest reports from the Virgin Islands & Puerto Rico? Everybody hunkered down?

As a heads up it looks like boats in Florida and the Carolinas and along the east coast should keep a weather eye on Disturbance 1 which is northwest of Bertha and has a 10% chance of becoming a Hurricane.
