As one who finds the area around Vancouver Island clean, refreshing and fun, I would say THANK YOU. I will place input as I can with my experiences. BTW- what is the Crab season in Canada?

Check out Fisheries and Oceans website, its a bit confusing,as some areas are different than others. The main thing is to not consume to much per week ,due to Dioxin contanimation, different amounts for different areas.Shellfish should only be harvested in month's with an "R"

Thanks Highseas. I will try to make sense of it. Are the fish/shellfish better on the west side of the Island? Also, I noticed your from Whistler. Is there any bouldering/rock climbing in your area that can be reached with a dingy? My son is really into climbing and wants to sail with me up toward Squamish.

Squamish IS the rock climbing (and outdoor sports, including windsurfing)capital in Canada, right on the ocean.Strong local inflow winds develop every afternoon from April to August.Check out my photo of "the most beautiful marina in the world,"backdrop is second highest natural granite monolith in North America.Watch for the shallow entrance to harbor, keep to port side of channel(right beside log boom pilings) when nearing range markers, enter only at 6ft.tide or higher.Best season for climbing is the fall.Good docking there, at the Government wharf, anchorage is minimal.Fishing is way better on west coast of Vancouver Island. The inner coast is pretty much devoid of salmon and most marine life.Great cruising, but not great sailing.I could ramble on ,if you need more info.,let me know;Geoff
