Vesselfinder & Marinetraffic

A friend and I always sail together with our boats. Both boats are equipped with a well-functioning AIS transponder (transmitting and receiving).
It happens very regularly that after arrival we go and check (both on vesselfinder and Marinetraffic) he is indeed indicated in the right place, but in the best case my boat is still on its way or is still in the port of departure. It is also often the case that the information about my boat is several days old.

Does anyone among the specialists have any idea what could be the cause of this and what a possible remedy could be.

Looking forward to your responses,

Regards,
Willy

Re: Vesselfinder & Marinetraffic

Your antenna is not putting out as much power as his so it is not being picked up as regularly by shore stations/satellites even if it is being picked up by nearby vessels.

That could be caused by antenna position or cabling.

Coax connectors were my issue. I had a pro install all new ones….excellent results.

@smac999 Yes he does. Even official authorities (port control etc) see me on their screens...
