Vetus diesels

Are Vetus marine diesels good?? I notice that they have electric fuel pumps. This means they need electricity to keep running. Im wary of that.

Electric pumps have advantages, they can be used to prime your fuel filters, and they won’t fill your crankcase with fuel if they fail either.

Plus most Diesels need a lot of electrical power to start.

Most Diesels will run with a failed low pressure pump, but long term it’s not good for them. They have low pressure pumps to ensure the HP pump always receives fuel under pressure, so it won’t cavitate and be damaged, but most HP pumps will pull fuel, just they can cavitate if the are under a vacuum.

Just as an example an aircraft PT-6 turbine is allowed to operate with no boost pump for 50 hours, at 50 hours the HP pump must be removed and inspected and overhauled if necessary.

A friend of mine has installed a Vetus and has over 400 hours on it now. Been a brilliant engine for him.
