i'm surrounded by big traditional wooden sailing boats, some of them over 100 years old, most get a fresh coat of paint every year or so, so dings get painted over and add to their authenticity!

i'm 63 ft of raw unpainted aluminium and whenever one of them comes alongside i like to ,shout with a grin "watch my paint work!" and watch the confusion on their faces

Ha-Ha! That'd be me! Except when I'm approaching the dock I'm sure I already have plenty of confusion on my face! Of course after years of owning a pretty, blue-hulled, rather "traditional" looking yacht, unpainted aluminum makes all the sense in the world to me.

exactly

I've read the posts above where it says the boat is lost but it seems he could beach it mid/high tide and support it near the top of the tide and let it dry out and make enough of a repair to get it somewhere to make good.

I would be surprised if he didn't have glass repair gear on board.

If I thought he was seriously in need of food or medical care, then I'd be receptive. Funding his leisure pursuit, not so much.

As I said, I'm not condemning, to each their own, I do just find it all very confusing and am personally not impressed.
I watched one of his Youtube videos and thought it was a disaster in the making. I'm not going to throw gas on the fire, but I can't say I'm surprised. As long as nobody died...

It looks like even if they did salvage their boat, it would pretty much be a write off having been effectively submerged for so long.

What would be the effect of a 9 foot inflatable tender under the bridgdeck assuming you could get it in place?

it would remove all possibility of getting ashore if the boat broke up or sank further, and force them to use the liferaft to get ashore...not something you want to do in croc infested waters

Yes, but I didn't imply that they should have done it. I'm asking what would the effect be.

i would guess that a dinghy with about 750kg of bouyancy with a cat displacing 8-10,000 kgs on top of it is not going to do a lot.

though a 9ft dinghy with a 15-25hp engine could probably tow a partially submerged catamaran to where it could be beached at about 1 knot in calm conditions
