Volvo MD 17C Gear Box

Had great sail last Sunday from Marina Del Rey to Redondo and back in 25 to 35 knots of wind with just mizen and jib. On beam reach was doing 7.5+knots and, close hauled on way back, 6.5 knots. Had gear box in reverse to stop prop spinning.

Boat; Magellan 36 with Volvo MD17C engine.

On docking had engine on forward low revs. Put gear into reverse (low revs) and nothing. Fortunately boat was going slowly so stopped her with bow line on dock cleat.

Found that the prop shaft and back of gear box has pulled out about 2 inches. It could not go more as stopper on prop shaft.

Does anyone have any thoughts, suggestions etc.

What do you mean by "Back of gear box"? the gear box came apart? Were you free wheeling the prop when sailing? maybe the pressure of that and loose bolts created the problem...?
