West Coast Sailboat Shows

Can anyone send me in the right direction for Sailbaot shows on the west coast in the next few months. I am not looking to buy a new boat but would like to get familiar with new options for sailboat equipment, navigation stuff, watermakers, furling mains, life rafts, etc. Also would like to know about schools here on the west coast. Not for learning to sail but for navigation, captains license, etc.

Seattle has one , I think in September. maybe Google "boats afloat". But the fall Seattle show isnt the most loaded with equiptment booths as some.

Believe the biggest and best attended by suppliers is the Oakland in the Water Show. It's usually in April so you'll have to wait a while for it.

Seattle has a boat show in January. Haven't attended that show and don't know how well it's attended by vendors. Believe it's a much bigger show than the one in September.

There is also the Wooden Boat Show in Port Townsend, WA, September 5-8. Aimed more at maintenance/building wooden boats but has some general marine vendors. It's a neat show to go to just to see all the old and new woodies.

The Long Beach Boat Show is a classic. Held in October, and loaded with boats and gear: 44th ANNUAL LONG BEACH YACHT AND BOAT SHOW - Long Beach Events Calendar : Long Beach Festivals & Events.

In March is an even larger one, the Fred Hall Long Beach Boat Show is held in the Convention Center: http://www.fredhall.com/

For training, Orange Coast College Sailing Center: http://www.occsailing.com/

For licensing: San Diego: Maritime Institute: http://www.maritimeinstitute.com/

San Diego's is in July-ish, it's getting better but it's hardly one of the great ones.

Saddleback College in Mission Viejo offering some courses starting next week. Please sign up for Celestial Navigation as they've had to cancel the class the last two years and this might be it if it doesn't go:
