It depends. Will you be cruising or day sailing or living on it? And why 30ft?

Re: What is the best 30 ft for the money

To a great degree the answer will depend on your primary use for the boat.

Will you fill time liveaboard?

Mostly at the dock or cruising?

Ocean crossing or island hopping?

Ever go to the Bahamas and Keys so shallow draft?

Just you or all the family?

Without more info, a lot of boat for the money is a Catalina 30. Very roomy, lots of them built so some deals to be had. Reasonable quality and reasonable performance.

In that size and with your budget there's lots of options but still think the Catalina 30 a good option. Very roomy for a 30' liveaboard.

I would choose whichever has had the best maintenance, has a diesel engine and is the cheapest. I won't vote for just one.

+1

For the use intended pretty much anything will do the job. The big decider really coming down to personal taste on layout.........albeit with the most important thing being condition for buck.

I'd go with the S2 just for the aft stateroom and separate shower/tub. I think the center cockpit would also lend itself better to a full enclosure for additiona living space while at the dock.

Catalina 30, there is a reason it is the best selling 30' of all time.
