What kind of rig is this?

Saw this in Cocoa Beach today and couldn't figure out what kind of rig it was.

Best I can tell the mizzen, if that's what it is, was designed to sit at that angle. The stay between the masts was attached in such a way as to indicate it was rigged as intended.

Re: What kind of rig is this?

That looks like a Thomas Colvin Gazelle schooner, with the main mast partly lowered in its tabernacle. Maybe to get under a low bridge, or prehaps so she rides at anchor head to wind better.

+1 on Snowpetrals answer although I'm not sure it's a Gazzelle. Any 30ft bridges in the area?

Judging by the slack in the side stays I'd imagine its been lowered for some kind of work.. can't see it being a functional rig as is..
But.. I could be wrong.. won't be the first time.

Yes actually. It has to pass under one about a mile before I took the picture.

Re: What kind of rig is this?

Very clever!

Using the triatic stay on the foremast makes for a much better angle to lift the main mast than the typical method of leading a line to the bow and using a gin pole. Far safer too.

Who says the schooner rig is dead?

Not a mizzen, Boatie called it right as a Schooner.

You are correct in that the the main stay is taut, but I think you will find that it is adjustable. As others have said, the main has been lowered for some reason, possible to pass under a bridge?
