Re: What makes one a 'cruiser'?

ah, what Tetapare sez......I find little fault with his summation.....there is a big difference between a cruiser and a sailor...

Re: What makes one a 'cruiser'?

I have a tie....I share it with a friend....between the two of us, I think it has been worn once.....wore it to dockside wedding...this is no ordinary tie...no indeed, it is a sail tie, laboriously painted to resemble a "real" tie...

but now I'm worried I've lost my " cruiser" status...

OMG, I have the uke, but don't know how to play it! Can I be a cruiser please?

I can play ... badly, but I can play . But surely that's another mark of a cruiser; the ability to not give a f!#* what others think. As long as everyone's having fun, it's all good

Re: What makes one a 'cruiser'?

Technically the definition is fairly simple:

Cruiser: You take your boat from point A to point X and stay the night. Size or type of boat, and length of stay or distance travelled over water is irrelevant... at that point you're cruising and it's an adventure.

Well, we've been at sea for over 5 years, covered over 30k nm and over half the globe - nary a spot of ink on either one of us.

Our books have gotten 5 star reviews on Amazon. Several readers have written "I never thought I would go on a circumnavigation, but when I read these books, I was right there in the cockpit with Vinni and Carsten"

You should contribute this one to the ongoing grocery-shopping thread, which has veered off to ciguara

Re: What makes one a 'cruiser'? The OP speaks!

I'm so happy with the way this poll is going that I'd do a "what makes your boat a 'blue-water' cruiser" one if that hadn't been done to death already.

Or if I were really feeling antsy, "What makes you a newb".

Though I personally empathize with the "cruiser living on the hard" and the "used to own/no longer a cruiser" and "still cruise though I currently don't own" crowds, I especially appreciated the poster who opined that "'cruiser' is the wrong word."

As a CF supporter, I may suggest to the mods a name change to ownersforumalsofrequentedbypeoplewhodontevenown.co m, since that seems to reflect the prevailing opinion. , and I say that without bitterness!

My favorite CF poll by the way was anything about COLREGS, the word that shall not be spoken by the cruisers who say 'ni.' Even I am not so dastardly to bring that one up.

trying to remember, was a small church may be Barra de Navidiad?, may be another close by town? because of an earthquake both arms of the Christ broke and laid by the sides, we used to call the Christ of the Cruisers as it resembled the cruisers carrying bags from the market.
No offense intended.
Just memories from late 90's
