Re: Why Not Regular Mattresses?

Could it just be that "regular" mattresses are too difficult/not flexible enough to get into the boat, through conpanionway with relative ease?

Re: Why Not Regular Mattresses?

Sometimes its all about getting it into the berth. I have a king size bed in my Bertram 58 but it would be a real squeeze to get a household mattress it into the aft stateroom. The foam mattress we bought was glued together in the room and the cover fitted over.

a number of suppliers (ikea for one) have beautiful inner spring mattresses that come shrink wrapped in a box - even up to king size

these boxes are heavy and it's quite an experience cutting one lose (!) but it makes getting the mattress to the boat, onboard and into the cabin very do-able.

once the mattress goes back to original shape, you would never know

cheers,
