Why so many Barnacles

I just pulled the boat for the season. The boat was moored in the Piscataqua river at Great Bay Marine in Newington NH. When it came out of the water, I didn't see anything unusual, except for the prop shaft. There was an unusually large cluster of barnacles where the prop shaft exits the hull and for about 16" aft. Every year I usually have a few barnacles scattered on the hull but never such a large group of them in one place. Any ideas as to why ? What is the best way to remove such a large group and clean the shaft ? Another thing, which may or may not be related, but my zinc anode was severely eroded this time, much more than previous years
I looked around the marina at other boats that were hauled and none of them had this sort of thing. Any ideas.Click image for larger version

Your prop shaft isn’t anti fouled.
Instead of worrying how fouled your shaft is, you should be very happy about how clean the hull is, yes I know it was pressure washed, but it wasn’t barnacle covered.

I would guess your boat did a lot of sitting?
